About Great Torrington

The view from Mill Street
View from a Mill Street Garden, Great Torrington
This painting was in my last Exhibition at the Queen`s
Theatre.  On the right you can see the Leper Fields
(read more about them on the town website).
I first started painting when I lived in Great Torrington and it remains my favourite place to paint. There are  more Torrington Paintings on my website and three new ones in the Exhibition

As far as I am concerned, Great Torrington is one of the best little towns in the world. It sits on the top of a hill, and has the most wonderful views. I will always remember waking up on my first Christmas morning in Torrington to hear the Silver Band, driving by in an open truck, up our street and round the town, playing Christmas Carols. It seemed to typify the spirit of the town, the real community that you find there, where people care about one another.

The town has its own website, www.great-torrington.com.
Do go it it, it tells you far more about the town`s history as well as its current attractions. Links below to some of them.

The Plough - which is mentioned elsewhere, with the Wind Thing, as well.
The Church of St. Michael and All Angels - I stayed at the Vicarage while on the walk, so there is more on that page as well. You can find details of the other churches in Torrington on the town site as well.
